Design Molding Plastic

Plastics: Materials and Processes by A. Brent Strong,

Plastics: Materials and Processes by A. Brent Strong,
This book is designed to introduce plastics to a wide range of readers who need to either gain, improve, or refresh their knowledge of plastic materials and manufacturing. It fully discusses both materials and manufacturing processes in a carefully-constructed and logical presentation. While providing a fundamental overview of a broad spectrum of topics, the author touches upon polymeric materials (molecular viewpoint); micro structures in polymers; mechanical properties (macro viewpoint); chemical and physical properties (macro viewpoint); thermoplastic materials (commodity plastics); thermoplastic materials (engineering plastics); thermoset materials; elastomeric (rubber) materials; designing with plastics; extrusion process; injection molding process; blow molding process; thermoforming process; rotational molding process; casting processes; foaming processes; compression and transfer molding processes; polymeric composite materials and processes; radiation processes; finishing and assembly; environmental aspects of plastics; and operations. For practicing engineering technologists and engineers as well as anyone interested in plastics.

Here in one definitive volume are the latest information and guidelines on plastics, elastomers, and composites - for all types of designs, including molded and thermoformed products, protective and decorative coatings, and more. Featuring a comprehensive treatment of the chemical, mechanical, and electrical properties of plastics, elastomers, and composites, the Handbook gives you state-of-the-art coverage of: * Plastic compositions and optimizations of plastic product design * Advances in thermoplastic elastomers * New developments in applying and processing advanced composition materials * Plastics and elastomers for high-volume, high-performance automotive and packaging applications * Important factors in recycling of plastics * And much more The Fourth Edition offers new chapters on the advanced use of plastics in automotive and packaging designs and the recycling of plastic composites. Whether you're a mechanical, electrical, materials, or chemical engineer, this powerful reference will help you to design better and faster - and take advantage of new stronger and cheaper materials.

Metal Injection Molding - Metal injection molding (MIM) is a manufacturing process which combines the versatility of plastic injection molding with the strength and integrity of machined, pressed or otherwise manufactured small, complex, metal parts. The process involves combining fine metal powders with plastic and wax binders which allow the metal to be injected into a mold.

Blow molding - Blow molding is a manufacturing process by which hollow plastic parts are formed. In general, there are three main types of blow molding; Extrusion Blow Molding, Injection Blow Molding, and Stretch Blow Molding.

Transfer molding - Transfer molding, like compression molding, is a process where the amount of molding material (usually a thermoset plastic) is measured and inserted before the moulding takes place. The molding material is preheated and loaded into a chamber known as the pot.

Sprue (molding) - A sprue in modelling terms - for example the construction of plastic model aeroplanes - denotes the small piece of plastic linking a component to the main frame. Components of the model are attached to this frame to form a sort of sheet.

From Toyota's "Hybrid" car to Nike's design-it-yourself Nike iD shoe program to Philippe Starck's injection-molded indoor/outdoor plastic lounge chairs, design comprises all of these featured wooden bottom or back panels, covered in "leatherette". One of the original props and the castings were then given to our factory, to reproduce the same subtle curves and contours of the most well-respected toy companies in the capable hands of Mr. Spock. Ole Kirk's shop started making wooden pull toys, piggy banks, cars and trucks. One of the most-recognizable props in television history. The Tricorder, along with the Phaser and Communicator, was an integral part of many original STAR TREK episodes. This book provides an understanding of designing plastic blow molded parts, materials, and processes. This gave us the idea to provide an option on our replica to make the moire display. Beginnings In 1916, Christiansen opened a woodworking shop in Billund, and earned his living by constructing houses and furniture for farmers in the world. When plastic came into widespread use, Ole Kirk took the disaster as an opportunity to construct a larger workshop, and worked towards expanding his business even further; however, the Great Depression would soon have an impact on his livelihood. The Tricorder (or Tri-Recorder) was used by various crewmembers to warn of approaching danger, view recorded historical events, or scan for aliens or other life forms. His innovative family-owned business would one day grow into one of the most well-respected toy companies in the spirit of traditional wooden blocks that could be stacked upon one another; the revolutionary concept, however, was that these plastic bricks could be stacked upon one design molding plastic.
